2005 New Legislation

This section of the CJPC website has, as of the end of August 2005, two subsections, the first entitled:

TESTIMONY SUBMITTED, MARCH, 2005 ---
and the second entitled:
LEGISLATION TO FOLLOW IN THE 2005-2006

The first section is devoted to testimony that member organizations and others gave before various committees of the Legislature on legislation related to CJPC’s goals. First of all, thanks very much to all who testified! Thanks also for sharing the texts of the testimony, giving others access to the facts and arguments used to support or oppose bills. CJPC welcomes more testimony to be sent to [email protected] for later posting.

The second section is a reorganization of the previous CJPC website section entitled New 2005 Legislation. It gives links to bills and articles written about the area by CJPC volunteers in the ten areas listed below Thanks to those volunteers and welcome to others who would like to write comparable pieces for our newsletter and website on legislative matters.

LEGISLATION TO FOLLOW IN THE 2005-2006 SESSION

Below is a list of ten areas of legislation which CJPC volunteers have considered and in some cases analyzed in articles for CJPC newsletters and hand-out documents for planning meetings and events. Under each area are links which give access to the texts of relevant bills text and to related written analyses. In most cases, the non-bill items can also be viewed by going to this website’s section on newsletters. (FYI: Articles after the May 2005 newsletter are not yet linked.)

To get to bills directly at the State House website go to http://www.mass.gov/legis. under “Current Legislation” and under that to either “Texts of Senate Bills” or “Text of House Bills” There are also conversion charts for use if you have a bill’s original docket number and not the official bill number. The Senate conversion chart may be accessed at http://www.mass.gov/legis/sdocket_to_bill.htm. The House conversion chart is at http://www.mass.gov/legis/docket_bill.htm. There are a few exceptions to the rule that all bills being considered in the Legislature are available for viewing on the State House website. (For example, bills that are written as compromise bills during sessions may not be posted.)
