Background: The Governor's Commission on Criminal Justice Innovation, created in early July, 2003, was asked to advise Governor Mitt Romney on cutting-edge crime-fighting techniques and ways to make Massachusetts safer for all residents. This bi-partisan commission, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey, has been meeting since October 2003, with the goal of identifying the best ideas and practices currently in place in Massachusetts and across the nation. The Commission includes five subcommittees: Re-entry and Post Release Supervision, Law Enforcement Education and Training, Forensic Sciences, Urban Crime Strategies, and Cross Agency Information Sharing.
