The Criminal Justice Policy Coalition is a 10 year old advocacy organization working for humane, healing and effective criminal justice in Massachusetts. In recent years, there has been an extraordinary focus on prison conditions in Massachusetts, by both the executive and legislative branches of government. As well, the cost to Massachusetts taxpayers of prisons has risen to become a larger burden than educational funding at the state level. Finally, there have been changes in legislative leadership which may allow for more rehabilitative policies in both sentencing and corrections.

About the Position

We seek an energetic, well-organized Executive Director to lead the organization along a path of growth. The Executive Director must be highly motivated, creative, and capable of initiating, planning, and executing new projects. Candidates should be committed to our mission and familiar with criminal justice policy issues. The successful candidate will exhibit a sense of professionalism and be comfortable working with both grassroots organizations and high-level public officials. We are looking for a person to help grow the organization and to grow with it.


The Executive Director will be responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the organization. S/he will report to the Board, work with our policy consultant, and supervise program volunteers and interns.

Responsibilities include:

· Working closely with Board in strategic planning, program development and implementation and organizational development

· Developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plan including grant writing and individual donations/membership

· Training, and managing interns and volunteers

· Coordinating research and preparation of policy papers, analyses, and reports

· Building coalitions with public policy and other grassroots organizations.

· Planning educational pubic forums and speaking events

· Acting as a spokesperson for media and public relations

Qualifications

The Executive Director must value teamwork and professionalism, and be competent in a wide range of public policy and activism activities. This position is ideal for someone with a diverse background and training, and is suited for someone who enjoys autonomy. Other qualifications:

· Experience in non-profit organizations

· Experience with successful grant writing and other fundraising avenues

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Moderate to high degree of computer literacy, web construction a plus

· Demonstrated leadership ability

· Strong interpersonal and presentation skills

· Experience in public policy

· Working knowledge of major criminal justice policy issues at the state and federal level

· Ability to organize, teach, and train others

· Access to an automobile a plus

Compensation:

· $20/hr for a 24 hour week, one year min. commitment

· salary review annually

· fringe benefit package – partial health, vacation time

· car travel allowance

· end of year bonus based on performance
